Positive thoughts: The way to improve your career and life

Positive thoughts are thoughts that make you happy and give you hope. These are the thoughts that energize you. It creates optimism and meaning in your life.

Advantages and disadvantages of positive thoughts

You would say that positive thoughts have mostly advantages and no disadvantages, but that is not entirely true. In diseases such as HIV and cancer, for example, it is not true that just a positive thought is going to save you, but generally and in less serious diseases, positive thoughts do help[1].

So positive thoughts can keep or make you healthy in most cases. In doing so, it also helps with recovery from surgery. So, if surgery helps you overcome a serious illness, it is helpful for your recovery to then be able to think positively again.

In a study of young people with depressive symptoms, for example, it was found that if they participated in a program that helped them think more positively, they also suffered much less from their depressive symptoms as a result than young people who received only individual support[2].

Because positive thoughts make you feel good, this also makes you achieve more success in your life. This is about success in your health, relationships and in your business life[3].

Making negative thoughts positive

A simple way to think positively more easily is to sit or stand up straight. In fact, research shows that when you stand or sit upright you then think positive thoughts more easily, than when you have less good posture[4].

In addition, there are many reasons that can cause you to think negatively. This may be due to low self-esteem or low self-esteem. You can be very critical of yourself or blame yourself for everything. You may suffer from depression or other health problems or you may have learned to think negatively because of your environment[5].

All these different causes need different approaches to change thoughts. Sometimes it is a matter of boosting your self-confidence, but for example, with learned behaviors, it is important to unlearn these behaviors and learn healthy thought patterns.

It is important for yourself to do this. Studies show that negative thoughts affect the molecules in your cells and, as a result, you can get sick from your negative thoughts. In addition, those negative thoughts can then also prevent healing of cells, also keeping you sick instead of getting better[6].

Starting your day with positive thoughts

Starting your day with positive thoughts can be done by repeating some positive affirmations while getting up, such as:

“I am worthy.”

“I love myself.”

“I am healthy.”

“I can do it.”

“God/the cosmos is with me.”

“Today is my day.”

This helps you start your day more positively right away, which gives you the energy to take action to change your life for the better[7].
